It's my favorite month. Summer lies ahead. Golf, flying, swimming. Shorts and bare feet. Scantily clad ladies. It's warm but not an oven. My lilies will start blooming. Of course, here it's supposed to rain tomorrow, but nooooo it just can't! It's JUNE gawddamnit.
Wow, that is one bizarrely colored flower. It looks like the gaping mouth of some weird plant monster about to swallow you whole...
You been watching too much sci-fi Goofus. Here, one week rain and in the 50's, the next week sun and in the 90's.
Last day of May, Memorial Day, I celebrated by spending all day trimming the bushes, which I do with a pair of hedge shears.
OMG, tomorrow the temp might get above 70° and only a 25% chance for even MORE FUCKING CLOUDS & RAIN! Actually, Saturday wasn't too bad and I got a lot of yardwork done, too.
With the temps oscillating between the 60's and 90's and intermittent rain showers I can't keep up with the weeds and lawns.
Finally got nice after the first 10 days or so-- now only a week+ left. Really, the Chiefs losing the Super Bowl on Feb. 7th doomed the weather for us. That day I smoked baby-backs and sausages and the ice storm was so bad by late afternoon my Orion cooker was frozen to the ground, and was for another 10 days. Then the weather just flat sucked for almost three solid months. May was more like March. We finally got late spring but it was suddenly 93° and 40% humidity. I'll take that over 50-60° rainy any time. [/rant] "We now take you back to your regularly scheduled programing."
Regularly scheduled program got replaced by "heat wave in the west". It's been over 100 degrees everyday for three weeks now. Highest it got was 117.
With the dry humidity, I'd probably receive a mere water stain. Good news though, it's supposed to plummet to a chilly 90 degrees on Friday.
At 4am the other day it was 90F with a wet bulb of 85F. I had to work outside and sweated through a shirt in under an hour.
Somehow the spring weather here has been even more shitty than last year. Rain, cool, and when it's nice the wind blows 25 kts. But there is this . . .
Nice lilies. Our spring has been all catty-wompass this year. Dry to start, wet to end. Things bloomed about a month late.
Thanks. New house, new lilies. I decided to drive to Home Depot last Saturday night at 9:30, hoping they'd have chlorine. They didn't, but it was nice to cruise around their garden center when it's dark and no one is in there. I picked up some azalea bushes, white begonia, multi-colored vinca, and dahlia bulbs. The lady took pity one me for no chlorine and gave me $26 of discounts. Then I cruised home listening to Unknown Metal Orchestra's Nerve Damage.
June. The month that finally turned up the heat on me, in my current unairconditioned state. Even if I could fix it, with the runaway cost of power, I can't afford to actually run it! Learning to live as our unairconditioned ancestors did...
Fans, lots of fans. So far, this small slice of Oregon has been absolutely perfect for weather. Showers about 1 1/2 days a week, 70's low 80's. Up north even the Columbia River is flooding. Purchased a mini-split last year and it did OK when the heat hit. It kept the whole place at 78 with no problem. I went with a 12,000btu but it would have been better to run a 18,000btu. The cost was a lot better than running 2 window AC's. $50/mo compared to $110/mo
Alas, right now, 80 is the LOW temperature, with the highs flirting with 100. I get a break for a few days, starting tomorrow, at least.
I almost feel survivors guilt. 70's low 80's here with a little rain nearly every weekend.I don't look forward to the 105 degree weather. I can't just go down to the river and cool off any longer. Unlesssss................I could somehow convert one of my oxygen regulators into a scuba regulator.............hmmmmm. Nah, straight O2 would actually poison me.
