A scooter too!! Nice job Matt!

Smersh - yes it's true. I have driven it maybe 250 miles since I got it and love the little car! First off, it's the only electric car that fits in my 1940s driveway. Any other E-car would require me to use the garage for charging (my girlfriend owns the house and just paid a lot to re-do the also-small garage, so that wasn't the best option). But actually the Smart is just so clever, I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am by it.

It's well made, it's comfortable, it's nimble and fits everywhere. The electric range is good enough for my commute with no issues, it's great for driving in our old downtown and around SF, and it's super easy to maneuver in traffic, park, and get around the city. I drove my Fiesta this week and thought "This car is HUGE!!!"

It has nice projector headlamps, heated seats and all the normal features you'd expect in a car, a bitchin' turning radius for u-turns on the narrow RWC residential roads, and I think it looks cool.

Anyway I dig it. And best of all it was cheap. $7900!

Smart vs Scooter? I'll take that challenge. This thing is like a little tank.

Those scoots can get pretty fast. I saw one on highway 199 today doing about 45. That little motor sounded like a chainsaw.

Between Dan and mattdev, this entire thread smells like 2-week-old semen-encrusted hipster socks. I'm getting the fuck out of here.

If you wanted something like this, you should have bought a Zaporozhet, and painted it red, with a hammer and sickle on the sides. That would be gangster.

My truck gets like 9 mpg with 35's on it and I don't like putting a lot of useless miles on it. We put a new hybrid battery in this Prius for a customer and 3 months later his bottom end gave out. I bought it for $150. It's a 2006. I figure I'll throw a used motor in it and drive that to and from work at ~35-40 mpg. I got a motor with 63K on it for $600. Total invested = $750

    Win!

Same with my Samurai. On 33's I can squeeze out 16-17 mpg. My Canyon gives me 20mpg. The Rogue gets 27-28 city. Guess which one I drive for running errands?

You bought a 2006 Prius for $150?! That's like $150 less than scrap value. Jealous.
Luckily those are old enough now that there's a couple in the yard and you can source a motor for decently cheap. $600 for a complete motor (assuming it was? Or just a short/longblock?) is a steal.
It seems like just yesterday, Priuses (Priii?) were brand new and just came out. Fuck, I'm getting old.

but a ride like this will rejuvenate a person. You'll not get a view like this with a Prius.

I wish prius were a high clearance SUV. They are quiet and a person could sneak up on those deer really easily.
This shot was on the way back from the ridge above where I live. Couldn't make it all the way up because of huge logs laying across the road that were too big for
my winch to pull. That's Grants Pass and the west end of the Rogue Valley down there.

Yep, the guy is a rich local contractor and we do all of his fleet. $150 was just a number he pulled out of his ass. Yes $600 for a complete motor. Came out of a rear end total. Thinking about buying the trans with it now.

Yep I live on a tiny street and have to turn around at least once a day. It gets annoying, so most people parallel park facing the wrong direction and some have gotten tickets for it. My Fiesta required a 3 point turn (any car I've driven required at least this many) and now with all the new cars on then road, sometimes even that was hard. The Smart does a u-turn in 28 feet. No issue doing circles on my street now. :) One

Did those come in manual for older ones? I remember the trans not being so great, and the wind made it feel like a golf cart with doors on the freeway lol

No, it was auto. The new ones are available with turbo and manual. The trans was terrible yeah - luckily the electric is as smooth as butter :)
