One of my neighbors hit my 04 Accord while I was out yesterday. Supposedly her kid didn't close the door before she started driving off. She took full responsibility and Geico setup repairs and a rental (though if my insurance doesn't cover insurance on the rental I have to pay for it, fighting that). NOW! Should I use this as an excuse to get a new car? I've been considering something new with more doors but it's got to be fun to drive. I almost pulled the trigger on the new Civic which is hella nice on the inside but want to see what the SI has. Though I'm tempted by the 17 WRX (why did they get rid of the hatch?) or Focus ST. But I drive maybe twice a week and the Accord only has 135k on it. Thoughts?
That should buff right out! That could be a week to fix, but you'll end up with paint overspray on your fender wells and undersides. I had something similar happen at a bank. A new CRV backed right into me. I decided to forego the payments of a new vehicle in favor of keeping my paid-off Canyon that's 11 years old.
This. Screw having a new car loan to pay. Drive the accord and buy a project (fun car) in cash on the cheap and build it.
So they gave me a Camaro for the rental.... which is not helping wanting a new car but ugh car payments.

I had a similar decision to make last fall. I had the down payment saved up and an old fart (older than me ) backed into me at a bank parking lot. Almost pulled the trigger on a new F150. I had his insurance fix it at the new car dealer I bought it from in '05. They did an awesome job and I decided to hang onto it. My truck was down for a week and the loner vehicle sucked. ( All I could get to haul my tools and at least a 6' step ladder, was Dodge Journey) Anyhow, I hung onto my savings and ended up buying my Tonka toy with bucks to spare. Now I have two titles with only my name on them sans a bank/lender name too. It won't be long and the wife's new car will be paid off and I'll owe nothing on anything. That is unless she totals this one too right after paying it off like the last one.
Save your money. Been driving my 2006 civic since buying it brand new in nov 2005. This November it will be 11 years I have had the car, I will gladly keep it for another 11 years as long as it runs and I am sure it will. I do all the regular maintenance myself and its cheap as fuck to run, insure and fix. I recently reached 100,000 miles and changed the sparkplugs for only $40 myself for the exact model that came factory installed. Shits crazy.
I'm a car salesman, and will tell you that it is always best to hang onto what you have. If you own it, the maintenance costs will be far cheaper than a car payment. My GMC manager has been trying to talk me out of my 2006 Chevy 2500HD Duramax 4x4 Crew Cab pickup and get me into a new truck. All I would gain is a ton of electronic gadgets. My truck runs perfect, and is ridiculously reliable. It can pull a house, and is comfortable for every day driving. I decided to stick with what I have. But, if you find a ridiculous deal on a new car it might be worth the trouble. Just depends on what you are trying to accomplish. ~Will Courtier~

How much money are you looking to spend? If you are looking for an elegant but sporty sedan, check out the Kia Optima. Specifically, I recommend the 2016 Kia Optima Sx-Turbo model. It has a 2 liter turbocharged engine that runs incredibly well and produces good power. That model will have leather interior, paddle shifters, AM/FM/Satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity for your phone (with a voice activated system). The cars really are insanely nice. They have a timing chain, and cost of ownership is ridiculously low. They carry the best auto warranty (10 year / 100,000 mile powertrain, 5 year / 60,000 mile bumper to bumper). We've won a ton of awards over the last few years for having incredible quality and still maintaining Oh, and if any of you want a new Kia or GMC vehicle, give me a shout. Will with the hookup! I think I've settled into not having a car payment and since I don't really drive can't quite justify it yet. Plus nothing has really been that desirable to throw logic out the window and buy it yet.

Yeah, I really enjoy selling cars. Kia vehicles used to be horrid pieces of mismatched parts. Other senior salesmen have told me many stories of brand new Kia vehicles from 8-10 years ago not even making it off the lot before they broke down. It's ridiculous. But, they've gotten much better. Definitely worth a look for anyone needing a car. Heck, you even have the Cadenza and K900 which really are world class cars at reasonable prices. The K900 is a $65,000 luxury sedan with a 420hp V8. Definitely not the Kia any of us remember. ~Will Courtier~
Fookin A. I was looking at Hyundai Genesis, which is probably in the K900 class. My Outback got hit-n-ran four days-- I shit ye not-- four days after I downgraded the insurance from collision to comprehensive. It still runs great, but it's got a nice scar across it's buttocks. Yur kidding, right?
The K900 is actually a much nicer car than the Genesis. The K900 has shift by wire, a more appealing dash, and you get the first 3 years of factory maintenance for free. If you want one, let me know. I'm at one of the few dealerships that can sell them. I can take care of all the financing (for lease or purchase), as well as all other paperwork. And, I can take care of shipping the vehicle. Maybe it's just me, but Hyundai or Kia will never be synonymous with luxury in my eyes. It looks like they have come a very long way, I'll give them that. But even nowadays, the only Hyundai that I somewhat like is the Genesis Coupe - and that's "somewhat", I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to get one. It's hard for me to give them credit and say "ok, you fixed your cars, you win" just because they only recently started making them better, and the new ones that are better aren't old enough for us to know what they're going to look like in 10, 15 years with 200, 250k on them. All I know is right now, there's a shit ton of newer Kias (mid 2000s) in the junkyard, which is not a good sign. edit: Smersh, just get a fender for the Accord, and buff the scratch out of the door. That will come out. Literally maybe $200 worth of work and it'll be as good as new.
